Barry - thank you very, very much for your presentation to our club meeting,
and the slide package you forwarded. It was such a delight to have you at
our club meeting; there was a natural kinship we felt with you. Your
enthusiasm and thorough knowledge of the NANO VNA, and your professionalism
as a teacher developed over many years were a big hit with us. I have seen
nothing but the highest praise for your presentation. As a custom, we owe
you our official club coffee mug as a small token of our appreciation so
please send me a note with your mailing address; and we will get it out to
you. Happy Holidays and please stay safe.

Thank you all for inviting me to speak at your Club meeting last night, Dec
11th.

It was a joy to learn about this NANO VNA gadget, and then share what I knew
(or thought I knew) with others.

I've only had mine now for a few months. It was a gift from a local friend.

I got thru about 1/2 of the slides I had prepared, and can send a more
recent pdf of the entire presentation as an attachment.

If anyone has questions or comments, write to me directly:

 k3euibarry at gmail.com

There are many youtube videos out there now on the NanoVNA, some good, some
poor.

Check out W2AEW Alan's videos... they are superb.

Barry provided his story and a presentation abstract:

Licensed in 1958 (KN3EUI) as a teenager, my knowledge of electronics was nil
back then, but I could memorize hundreds of questions and answers to pass
FCC tests. It took me decades to really understand radio concepts, which I
would now like to share with others. I am a retired physics
teacher/professor with a background in astrophysics. I now love to tinker
with sound card digital modes and build and test antennas. I am the net
manager of the Pennsylvania NBEMS (EMCOMM) net and active in ARES/RACES in
Chester County PA.

Presentation Abstract:

What is a Vector Network Analyzer?

What is all the fuss over this NANO VNA for under $100?

How to set up a Nano VNA with computer software on Win 10.

How to Calibrate the device: short, open, load (50 ohms).

How to use an VNA to analyze antennas.

Vocabulary: reflection coefficient, return loss, phase, resistance,
reactance, impedance, SWR, and Smith Chart.

Why an antenna can be modeled as a RLC series circuit.

SWR: myths and reality
