Hello group,
Next Saturday the 29th is the start of Winter Field Day. The event runs from 1000 Saturday to 1000 Sunday (local time). Full information is at:
https://www.winterfieldday.com/
Like the ARRL's Field Day in June, WFD is technically an emergency exercise, but most of us just have fun with it and make a bunch of contacts. There is even a cool map of stations announcing their plans to be on-air:

To join in you just make contacts on the non-WARC bands, including VHF and UHF. For us in Alaska the exchange is our ARRL section (Alaska), the number of transmitters you are using, and whether you are a Home station, Outdoor station, or Indoor station.
I'm going to be hot tent camping at Shem Pete Lake, in Nancy Lake State Recreation Area, which is also Parks on the Air unit K-7220. There will be a LOT of POTA activity over the weekend, so it's also a great time to get some new park units in your logbook.
My VHF/UHF gear is going to be a little limited, but should work ok. I'll have a dual-band j-pole antenna for 2 meter and 70 centimeters, and will be rigging up a horizontal dipole for 6 meters. On 2 M and 70 cm I'll only have 5 watts available, but I have a lot more power available on 6 meters.
Keep an ear out for me during the Saturday morning net at 0930 on 146.52 FM (I'll need a relay). After the net I'll switch over to one of the repeaters and coordinate from there.
Happy operating,
Brandon Clark, KL7BSC
