Hello group,
Don't forget that this weekend is the second of the club's Parks on the Air (POTA) activations. This time around we will be activating Chugach National Forest from the Hope Highway just east of Hope.
From a location just opposite (north side of the arm, near Indian) I have regularly worked back into the Mat-Su, Anchorage, and Kenai during VHF contests. The south side of the arm should have an even better angle on the Mat-Su and Anchorage stations. Even Kenai stations might pick me up via reflection from the Chugach, so tune in and listen. Signal reports after the event are much appreciated.
In a big improvement this time I will be running a two-element yagi for the 6 meter band. That should noticeably improve signal strength.
The activation will start at 1030 local (end of the Saturday SSB net).
Modes will be:
SSB on 50.125 from 1030-1100
FT8 on 50.313 from 1100-1130
Since everyone is still getting used to FT8 (including me!) I thought that starting on SSB would help keep it fun. Don't miss out - this is going to be a fun one.
73,
Brandon Clark, KL7BSC
PS: keep an eye on the POTA spots website. If I'm able to drag my butt out of bed early enough I may also work HF for a while before 1030.
