[AK-VHF] RSVP: VHF+ NET on the 4th of July - 144.200 USB

Hello group,
No luck with the HF contacts. 7.285 turned out to be too close to an
overseas broadcast station. 7.090 was clear, and I did hear one call there,
but no luck making contacts. Even on the bush net it seemed like no one
could hear me.
I was running a QRPguys tri-band vertical antenna (kit build) and my Yaesu
817ND. The radio's five watts is definitely enough to cover the local
region, but I think the low take-off angle from the vertical was just
warming up the walls of the canyon. Great for hilltop use, not so good for
down in a valley. Next time I'll take my portable dipole and see how that
works.
