[AK-VHF] VE8RT 2M beacon question

I have a QRP Labs U3S kit coming, along with a few other things.
This has a ability to operate in several different modes as a beacon,
and they say that with a stable VFO it could work on 2M WSPR. My first
thought was setting something up as a local (not at my QTH) bearing and
signal reference for checking beam antenna performance and bearing. It
could serve that purpose too and be a beacon for more DX stations.

I'm not familiar with, and there doesn't seem to be a lot online,
about ISCAT A, is it suitable for a beacon? I've tried listening and I
probably have the audio levels set too high as it constantly outputs
random characters.

What would be a preferred mode for a 2M beacon?
