[AK-VHF] So close, yet so far

Paul,

Thanks for the promotion of meteor scatter (ms). I've been trying to
interest northern hams in this mode as a way to do some serious VHF
DX. One hop ms will reach out about 1300 miles which is northern
Vancouver Is. for hams in south central AK (Anchorage/Kenai
Pen./Mat-Su Valley).

Barrow, Nome, Kotzebue, Bethel, Fairbanks, Whitehorse and SE Alaska
are all easily reached from Anchorage via ms

MS works best on 6m and one can do it with 100w and a small
yagi. Next is 2m which takes a little more antenna and power. MS
has been done up to 432 (with serious stations). I worked Paul using
KL7FF on Prince of Wales Island (CO35RQ - 760mi) on June 9, 2007 on
2m with 150w running ms:

I will have my dual-seven element yagi array up possibly by the
weekend. I have 1000w on 6m. That is enough to do eme as well as
ms. Obviously will make a big presence in a 6m opening. I have a
four yagi array on 2m with 1200w (soon).

Just need stations to get on the air!
