Brandon,
Sounds like good use of time. Yesterday's net
did not pan out very well. That's the
consequence of running a net on the national
calling freq. Sometimes it will be in use
precluding the net. My signal from the Kenai
Penin. is not strong enough for small FM stations
running simple vertical antennas to hear (over local traffic).
I've spent close to $15K for a state of the art
2m eme station capable of a signal transmitted to
the Moon and back over 500,000 miles (even when
running only 150w). So the shoe goes on other
stations to improve enough to copy me over a 70
mile path. I was asked why I don't run a
kilowatt on the net. Actually tried it once
several years ago and SSB quality was poor. My
amp is run closer to class-C or B so not linear
enough for voice. Plus high blower noise in the
shack would effect the mic. New 1200w sspa in
the works will replace the 8877 and HVPS. I
should be able to run 600w SSB with it.
SWR is >2:1 above 146-MHz on the eme array which
is not kind to solid state amps. FM can only run
at 100w out of the 150w amp. I may have a new 2x
array of 11-element yagis for full-band use on 2m
when my 6m array goes up next month.
Your project sounds very nice. Take some photos
(include detail close-up's); would make a nice
article for AARC Newsletter or on a website!
Net will be cancelled next Saturday as I have a
conflict at 9am on Saturday. Net can go ahead
without me as NC if folks desire.
