We will begin the net at 9am as usual on 144.200 USB, but we can test
other bands if it is desired.

The ARRL Sept. VHF Contest begins at 10am (1800utc) and extends to
7pm Sunday. All bands 6m and above are included. Rules have changed
to allow use or 146.52 in the contest and you may use assistance
making contacts. Your entry class will depend on power used, whether
FM-only or all-mode, from home qth or mobile or
portable. Single operator or multi. Check the link to the rules
for details and scoring:

Typically VHF Contest turn out in AK is light so we consider these
contests a good oportunity for generating some activity on the VHF
and Up bands. Note all contacts are direct and cannot use repeaters
or digipeaters.

We have special station, Ken - NL7B, operating portable from the
foothills of Alaska Range at 4500-foot altitude (Kesugi Ridge in
BP52du: lat 62-52-00 N, long 149-40-45 W). He will have a 4-5mi hike
with 3000 foot climb from the car coming up the Little Coal Creek
Trail from the Parks Hwy. I've est. the direct range to be 158mi
from Nikiski (BP40iq) so it will be about 100mi N of Anchorage. Not
sure what his equipment will be but will operate 2m-SSB or CW and
possibly 6m or 70cm. His exp to arrive and begin about 1pm. Later
on car trip home to Fairbanks they will stop at Hurricane Gulch
bridge in BP53 where he can use a yagi and 50w on 2m. He is hopeful
to have cell coverage to let us know his arrival. Ken will also use
a HT with APRS if he can access any nodes. Look for NL7B on www.Findu.com

I will have the following:
50.125 USB 80w + 6 element yagi (Hpol)
144.200 USB 130w + four 10-element yagis, or 146.58 FM
223.50 FM 80w + two 11-element yagis
927.50 FM 50w + 33 loop yagi
1296.100 USB/FM 50w + 45 loop yagi

446 FM 30w using vertical is not expected to reach Anchorage unless
someone operates from Chugach St. Parking lot (Glenn Alps). BTW that
location has excellent change to work Ken - NL7B.

Please join us for the net and contest!
