OK, but other than the peak being in the early hours Aug 11/12?
An old ham radio meteor scatter site was
http://www.qsl.net/w8wn/hscw/hscw.html?B1=W8WN
But appears not updated for several years.
A few of us had some fun on 6m ms last night:
W7IV/KL7 living in Ketchikan, AK (CO45) has QRO and a 6m7JHV yagi for
6m. Paul and I had a first sked last night at 9pm (0500z) and tried
a bit of FSK441a on 50.190 MHz. We chatted on the ON4KST 50-MHz
region-2 logger and were joined by K7CW and KL7KY who monitored the attempt.
I copied KL/W7IV every sequence for over an hour, some with multiple
pings and began with some Es. KL7KY had a good copy on W7IV on his
two stacked yagis. I am only using a single 3-elem yagi side-mounted
on my tower at 23-feet pointed to az=130. My 125w did not make it
back to Paul. Kevin, KL7KY ran after me with some power and they
finally made two-way by using EISCAT. It was concluded that Paul has
some receiving challenge in Ketchikan in my direction with strong
noise. Ketchikan is 805mi from me across the Gulf of AK.
W7IV has two M2 2mXP-20 to put up on 2m and 300w, so he will be in
the ms and eme game on 2m pretty soon. I can work him with that
since I run 4x XP-20 and 1300w on 2m.
Perhaps this year's Perseid's shower would be a good time to attempt
2m ms to CO70 or CN98 from BP40? CO70 is 2212 mi from me.
KL7KY reports he worked AL2RS in Teller, AK (AP65te, north of Nome)
on 6m. These events may finally get some excitement going in AK for
VHF+. Meteor scatter has the most potential for medium distance QSO's up here.
PS: I am working on having a tower mounted 6-element 6m yagi and
800w PA on 6m.
