It is 1:37am on Wednesday morning. I have taken my last DX pill which has been keeping me awake most all nights. This is great for DXing the low bands, and has been fairly good for the cold I had for a month.

I have brought in the engineers (aka grandkids 3 and 5) to assist with keeping the station DX ready. Their parents are on an anniversary trip.I have discovered that DX pills and grandkids do not mix since the DX pills wear off during the day and I need to crash when the "engineers" are needing me to play with them.

Monday I had a flash of brilliance and told them that today we were going to work the "night shift". We all bunked in the living room with snacks, games, and Peppa Pig blasting on YouTube. We made it till about midnight, when the authorities aka (CC their grandmother) showed up at the door and busted us. My plan of keeping them awake with me all night and sleeping during the day was foiled.

There has been no night shift for them since, but there has been a bit of DXing for me.Mike KB5WBH had texted me earlier today and said he thought that 80 had been decent last night because he had left his rig on and had a bunch of good decodes out of Europe. I thought I would give it try and see how the band was tonight.

Europe was in pretty good shape using the pennant on RX and a newer inv L on xmt. I was a bit disappointed using the 160 meter inverted L on 80. It did not tune good, and worked not much better than a dummy load. A new inverted L cut for 80 meters was installed with a raised feed point that uses the roof of the metal shop building 40x64 feet as the ground field. It is very much better on 80 than the 160 inv L.

Several stations were worked in Europe. The best catch of the evening was CN3A. He was only a plus 11...061500 11 0.1 2042 ~ W5ZJ CN3A RR73 ..when I worked him, but had been stronger. I think I logged 19 stations with all being common
dx but still lots of fun to work.

I was able to work S21WD with this same antenna on 15 meters a bit earlier in the evening, but I struggled, especially with the RX.

Everyone have a great day and Good Dxing.
Randy/W5ZJ
