That’s what I thought too, Steve. I also worked the ST0R and it was before OH2BH’s statement of the first one counting was being in 2013. Just seemed like the dates etc in the article were a bit off.
I am sure Martti put a lot of thought into the article about SO many places he went to, and he had to go back in time to “recollect” things just a bit. I doubt I would have the mentality to be 100% correct about all my DXpedition memories and such, especially at my age now. He left out a few personal DXpedition things that I DO remember but won’t comment on. IIWII
I am older than him but have talked to him dating back to 1972-73 when I was in Broken Bow, OK and his first child was born. We talked on 40m on SSB a few times for several minutes. No big deal, just my comment for the day yesterday, something that tweaked my memory. At least the ADXA guys can reflect back on memories and put some dates “in their minds” about certain things.😊
San - have a safe next 3 days, especially in central AR with the bad weather

Subject: Re: [ADXA] Clarify OH2BH article in QST this month about ST0
Hi San,
When South Sudan was added back as the Rep of South Sudan in 2011, ST0R operated there with a small group from DL. I have LOTW CW/SSB confirmations from 08-03-2011 and 08-10-2011, as my DXCC counters for there (Z8) .... after it was added back. So there was activity almost immediately after being put back on the list.

In OH2BH’s article about DXing in this month’s QST there is some confusing statement on page 61, showing him and OH2MM putting on ST2FF/ST0 in 1980. It says it was “the first time the entity was counted for DXCC”. Then states it counted again in 2013. It was not the first time ST0 counted for DXCC in 1980. I may be misreading things...
To clarify: ST0 was put on the DXCC list officially in late 1978 and operations were accepted for DXCC including the first ham known operation a few months before my ST0YY, and our QSOs counted for DXCC. ST0 was added along with 4U1UN in in about November 78 and retroactive QSOs counted ( maybe even back to 1972, if someone else had operated ).
The article states it counted again in 2013 when Z81X operated. Well, IN BETWEEN those mentioned operations, ST0 was DELETED in 1998 and then was “reactivated” in 7-14-2011 and counted for DXCC again. Maybe nobody operated from 7-14-2011, so perhaps OH2BH’s trip in 2013 was the first after ST0 was re-added?
Yaesu DXCC entity “Essentials” clarified ALL DXCC entities, Deleted and Current.
1. ST0 *** Contacts between May 7th, 1972 and December 31, 1994 count for this entity.
2. Deletion 1998
3. ST0 (after re-added in 2011) mentions the “new addition” and the unofficial prefix
Perhaps K5FUV would like to chime in with his thoughts on the page 61 misquote on dates and first time to count for DXCC in 1980.. Long story short is ST0 was deleted and re-added to the DXCC standings at two distinct time. Counts as a deletion and you had to rework again after 2011. Ain’t DX fun but complicating at times as to ‘count or no count’ and when?… 😊
