Dennis.. YES, remember all of the guys you mentioned. 3948 was main freq but we used a couple of others over the years but for short time only.
W5IRG Jim.. When in practice in Hazen in the late 1990s I ate lunch with his wife couple of days a week. Jim and I were close, mainly because he and Ross Beard (my mentor) were real close. I bought most of Jim’s Collins from his wife in 1998.
Sid Phillips a great friend too and he joined the ADXA years later after we formed a second time at Larry Woolsey’s house in 1973 or so. GMG also was in Hazen but lost track of him. ML Young QKR and Sid were very close and we got him to come up from Texas for our annual ADXA event, him staying with me once in Hot Springs for the week-end.
The entire group you mentioned are true old timers and were impressionable in my young life as I was in high school and then on into college days at Ga. Tech and U of A. And I worked at AM radio stations too, at KWAK in the late 50s and helped Ed Moory at KDEW on Saturdays for free when in practice in Stuttgart, spinning records from the 60s. I was the last non family member to see him in the LR hospital the weekend he passed away. #1 Collins retail dealer in the USA for many years. He heard me on station WQXI -AM in Atlanta one morning on 1250 kc before KWAK came on the air on 1240 and “took me out”.. Gosh, don’t know if I can take much more of these memories. Not enuff Kleenex to dry my eyes. 😊
TU Dennis for the great post here.

I got my license in 1963 - remember talking to K5QHS on 75 meters some in the mid 60's before I went off to college and then the Air Force. I got on 3.948 quite a bit with the group. I remember Marion Prior, K5KFY, Jim Crowly, W5iRG, Sid Phillips, WA5AUZ (Jim and Sid were DX'ers, along with Dick Freeling), Leonard Petrus, K5GMG, Ross Beard, W5FUW, and others. There were some interesting "code words" used. If you needed to say Bull****, the code word was BOOMI. I think I have that right. Anyway, a great bunch of guys and interesting times. I remember one time we were talking about satellites and Dickie used his 2M FM rig, keying CW with the mic button, to work me on one of the satellites. He hadn't thought about it before, and after a 5 minute discussion, he figured out how to do it with what was in front of him. Dick was truly an outstanding individual in all aspects. I still remember that voice and that resounding "BOOMI".

Dennis and Lanny. Great stories for sure.. Oh, Dennis, forgot you were in Brinkley. I was born and raised until 1952 in Clarendon, then mom and I moved to Memphis til Jan 1, 1957 when we moved to Stuttgart. Gosh, you were close to me for sure. Maybe we talked on 75 SSB in those days. There were morning yak sessions that covered mostly AR stations and some in Memphis and couple in Texas.. Ed Moory, Dick W5TIZ, Larry Woolsey W5HJA, me and 3-4 others on 75 SSB each morning in the late 50s and early 60s. Memories for sure!
