Joel, thanks for the shout out.
Bill (6) and I (5) have had lots of fun working DX stations back to back.
They invariably think they have made a mistake in their log where upon we
have to insure them that everything is proper and we are distinct hams,
halfway across the country. I'm sure that those watching the goings on, on
6m were scratching their heads a bit Friday night, asking did I really see
what I saw or was WSJTx decoding a hash wrong -- AGAIN.
Bill recently moved to Oregon after a lifetime in California. A few years
back, he was running the CQP on SSB in 2012 when I stumbled across him and
gave him a call. He stopped his contest mode immediately and we just
chatted for a bit. He is an avid collector of "JJJ" calls from around the
world and has 5 or 6, I think, in his collection. He filled out my card,
on the spot, and got it ready for a stamp and then resumed his CQP
activities. I filled out his and had it ready for his SASE he said he
would send me as he really wanted my card. He also uploaded to it to LoTW
when he took a break.
We worked on 6m FT8 the Friday night about 10p CDT as Joel said, but we
also had an ongoing chat session using JTAlert F5 messaging that lasted for
some time while we both worked other stations.
We have started a new contest just for us. Working all bands / all modes
(that we both have) and go from there. We have already got a pretty good
start. So far 3 SSB contacts and 4 FT8 contacts across 6m, 15m, 20m and
40m.
