I monitored awhile in the VHF contest and worked a few (just 49 total
contacts). 6 meters was pretty local on Saturday but wide open on Sunday.
I worked a few on 50.313 FT8, and then called CQ on 50.318 FT4 and was
answered by K1JT. I tuned down the band for SSB and started hearing
stations about 50.285 and they were thick all the way down to .125. Then
50.080 to 50.100 was full of CW stations. It was a stark reminder that the
QSO rates on SSB and CW are much higher than FT8 and even FT4, although FT4
moves along pretty well. I worked more on 6M CW than any other
band/mode. No DX, though.
My 2 meter antenna is 4 elements about 8 feet off the ground. I managed to
work AR, IL, MO, MS, and TN on 2M FT8. TN was Steve, N4JQQ. I have a few
bigger 2M antennas and need to get one of them on the tower. Also 432. I
had nothing at all on 432 this time. The plan is to add to the 3L on 6M
with 12 EL on 2M above it, and then 22 EL on 432 at the top. None of this
will be very high, but at least I can get on the bands. I have a Ukranian
transverter for 222 so maybe I can squeeze in a 222 antenna somewhere.
73,
Dennis
