So sorry to learn of the passing of a couple of friends in the past week or so.
(1) ST2SA Sid. Stayed with him on one of my 5-6 weeks AF trip in 1978 when I went to ST2 and ST0YY on way down to return visits to D68 and FH8, 3B8YY and couple of places. Sid was kind to let me stay with him a few nights and operate his station as K5YY/ST2 when my KWM2A blew up where I as staying at a Satellite company’s living quarters. He called ahead to authorities in ST0 to assist my operating request and allowing my FT101 into the “country”. Almost lead to my death … most know the story about the rogue military arresting me.
(2) Martha Henson WN4FVU accompanied her husband Carl on several DX trips to sorta rare entities like Annobon Island 3C0 and E3 Eritrea, mainly AF spots and went to YV0. They were elected to the DX Hall of Fame in 1993. Lost track of them in recent years as they moved and gave up DXpeditioning. We spoke at Dayton one year at a DX forum. Loyd and Iris were at the social events with us one night. Had a photo of the 5 of us … now will search for it in all my photo albums mess.
About ready to stop chasing the ZK3 and A82X as I just don’t need any more band modes from them, especially with very limited RTTY activity, a few FT8 60m QSOs, and only 15 Qs on 28mc by ZK3. Not worth it to keep listening for the A82 on 3.8 SSB til 12 midnight but will listen when I can for them on 12m SSB. The A35JT chase on 3.5 was useless, and tended to be on FT8 when I got up each morning at 6AM to “chase” on 75m. But got ‘em everywhere else on bands that were propagated to NA and got them on RTTY on two bands and total of 10 band modes. When they went QRT, then the darn TO80SP came on. Chased on CW mainly then found out they do not do OQRS, only accept $2 USD and SAE direct. Accept IRCs which can no longer be bought in USA. Don’t trust postal system to get anything safely sent to EU, especially DL and Italy.. To those of you who DO sent mail to EU or AF managers with US $$ and SAE (sorta thick envelope) do NOT put your or their callsigns on the envelope anywhere, either one, including the SAE. Postal guys know there is money inside.. OQRS is safe and well worth not having a chance on losing your card to them.
So about one more day of monitoring the A82X on 24 SSB or RTTY anywhere and monitoring the ZK3 perhaps on 3.8 SSB only at my sunrise at 7AM. Think I worked them on RTTY on 10mc this morning but not certain, copy was about 33%... very weak streaming. At least they were on RTTY for first time. Fun chasing the first 3 for past several days but tired now, hate to say. So the TO80SP had better be on when I am up and doing leisure stuff or won’t be chased by me.. hi hi
