4X, ISRAEL. Dov, 4Z4DX, is expected to be active as 4X0MDC during the
upcoming Holyland DX Contest (April 21st, 0000z-2359z). QSL via IK2VUC.
5H, TANZANIA. Vlad, UA4WHX, who was active from Malawi (as 7Q7VB) in
the beginning of April, is now active as 5H3VMB. He was heard on
30/17/15/12 meters. INTERESTING NOTE: On QRZ.com, Vlad asks everybody
to send IRCs instead of dollars. He also writes "to be more patient
(possiby for years) if you want to receive your card via the bureau."
6W, SENEGAL. Dani, EA4ATI, is heading back to Dakar again. He informs
OPDX that he will probably use the callsigns 6W/EA4ATI and 6W1EA for
contests. He is expected to be there this month and will stay until
April of next year. He will probably use a three element yagi beam
antenna for 10-15-20 and dipoles for the other bands (40-80-160 and

9N, NEPAL. Operators Nob/JA2AAU, Yoshi/JA2AIC and Iku/JA2ATE will be
active from Khathmandu between May 10-15th. Activity will be on 40-10
meters, CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. Their callsign and QSL information

CQ MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF 2006 DX MARATHON. Press release dated
April 9, 2007: CQ Magazine DX Marathon - "In 1947 CQ Magazine held the
first ever DX Marathon which then morphed into the CQ World Wide DX
Contest. Jump forward almost 60 years and from January 1 to December
31, 2006, the DX Marathon was re-born where hams everywhere were
encouraged to "work 'em all" in a twelve month period. The CQ DX
Marathon has already increased activity on the bands and appeals to
hams in any location and any station capability. The DX Marathon will
be repeated every year from January 1 to December 31.
For 2006, the winner in the Unlimited Class is Pete Meyer, N0FW. Pete
had an amazing score of 326 - 286 countries and all 40 zones. The
Formula class winner was Drago, T94GB, with an impressive score of 228
including 193 countries and 35 zones using 100 watts and wire antennas.
Complete results will appear in the June 2007 issue of CQ Magazine.
For 2007, the WARC bands are now permitted, so overall participation
is expected to increase. For complete rules and submission information,

73, John, K9EL, Program Manager, CQ DX Marathon
FS, SAINT MARTIN. John, K9EL, will once again return to this island
mainly for a family vacation but will operate as FS/K9EL whenever
possible between April 27th and May 6th. He will be using an IC7000
and verticals for 80-10 meters, and mainly CW and SSB. QSL to his home

GB100, ISLE OF MAN (Special Event). Members of Wrexham ARS will be
operating from Scarlett Point, Isle of Man (EU-116, WLOTA LH-0449)
between May 25th and June 5th as GB100TT. This is a special event
callsign celebrating 100 years of the "Isle Of Man TT (motorcycle
road) Races". Activity will be on all bands from HF to UHF and might
even use their club callsign GT4WXM/p. Operators mentioned are

GM, SCOTLAND. Gordon, G3USF, is off to the Shiant Isles with others
from the Grantham ARS and expects to be active as GM3USR from late
Tuesday, July 10th until early Friday, July 13th. Their Grid square
is IO67tv. They will use 50 MHz gear w/100W + 3 or 5 element beam as
well as the usual HF antennas. Information and updates will be

IOTA NEWS.......................
AS-080. Operators Rocky/HL1VAU, Han/DS2GOO and Ryou/DS4NYE are
planning to activate Anmyon Island (Korean Distriction
Number F26) during the first weekend in May. Operators
will sign homecall/3. The team will use some wire antennas
with simple barefoot mobile transceiver. Most of their
activity will be on the digital modes and the WARC bands.
AS-134. Look for He Lei, BD1DRJ, to be active as BD1DRJ/3 from
ShiJiuTuo Island, April 21-22nd. Activity will be on
40/20/15/10 meters CW and SSB. QSL via his home callsign.

AS-135. Operators Kevin/BA4XA, Mary/BA4XYL, Roy/BA4VE, Li/BD4XD,

Activity will be on or around the usual IOTA frequencies,

EU-060. Members of the White Tower DX Team will be active from
Skyros Island (MIA MG-115, WLOTA LH-2002), June 17-22nd.
Activity will be on all bands and modes. Operators mentioned

EU-096. A group of Swedish operators will be active as OH3I from
either Parainen or Nauvo Island, between 1000z, April 21st
and 0830z April 22nd. Suggest frequencies are:

Digital - 7036, 14096 and 18106 kHz
They plan to use 2-3 transceivers with amplifiers and good

EU-096. A group of Italian and Swedish operators will activate the
rare IOTA Parainen Island (Turku Islands) with the special
callsign OH10TA, April 25-29th. Operators mentioned are:
Markus/OH1MN, Peter/OH0JFB, Jourko/OH1RX, Andrea/IZ0EHO,
Vincenzo/IZ0FKE, Simone/IZ0BTV and Matteo/IW0HJH. Activity

EU-129. Look for Karen/DL8HK and Alfred/DB1VQ to be active as
DL0EFA/p from the Island of Usedom (O-13 for the German
Islands Award), between April 26th and May 1st. DL8HK will
be active only on CW, while DB1VQ will be on SSB. QSL via

EU-158. A group of OM/YL German operators will active from Proti
Island (MIA MG-092) between July 26-31st. Their activity
will also include the upcoming RSGB IOTA Contest. Look for
the OM operators Olaf/DJ7TO, Uwe/DK3WW, Frank/DK7AO,
Michael/DL6MHW, Holger/DL7AU and Holger/DL7IO to be active
as J48IO. They plan to run 2 stations simultaneously from
160-10 meters. Each station has its own generator and
antenna setup for 160-10 meters. The YL operators Katrin/
DL1AXL, Andrea/DL3ABL and Birgit/DL7IQ will be active as
J48YL. Activity will also include the RSGB IOTA Contest
on all bands and modes. QSL route for both callsigns are

EU-172. Operator Ulli, DO2ML, will be active as OZ/DO2ML from Aeroe
Island (DIA FY-014, WLOTA LH-0973), June 4-7th. Activity
will be on 80/40/20 meters SSB only. QSL via his home

OC-012. Kei, JK1QLR, will be active as V63LR from Yap Island,
Micronesia, after April 23rd. QSL via JK1QLR.
OC-078. Kei, JK1QLR, will be active as V63LR from Ulithi Atoll,
Micronesia, April 20-22nd. QSL via JK1QLR.
OC-144. Operator Hotang, YC0IEM, will be active from Bangka Island,
April 16-22nd. No info on bands/modes were provided. QSL via

OC-256/OC-283/OC-284 (Rare IOTAs to be Activated). Team organizers
Hans/SM6CVX and Derek/G3KHZ are planning a DXpedition to the
islands of Nukumanu (OC-284pr) and Takuu (OC-283pr) this
coming September and October. The team will comprise of 4
radio amateurs plus a Swedish friend, a professional photo-
grapher, a film producer and a scientist. These islands are
the most remote islands from the main island of Papua New
Guinea. They plan to be active for 6 days on each of the
islands. If time permits, they will also make a stop at
Kilinailau Island (OC-256). INTERESTING NOTE: "These islands
are low lying and are suffering from the effects of global
warming which is causing the sea level to rise. Takuu is
especially vulnerable because it is also sinking due to the
movement of the tectonic plates in the region. The net
result is that the sea level is rising 20cm per year and the
island is only 2 metres above the high tide level. 600
people live on this island. Nukumanu is also populated."

JD1, OGASAWARA. Skip, JE2HCJ, will be active as JE2HCJ/JD1 from April
16-25th. Activity will be mainly on CW on 160-6 meters. After April

AS-031) in the Ogasawara Islands Group, between 0600z Sunday, April

now and May 3rd. The group will operate as JT1Y from Ulanbaatar and
will also be visiting the call areas 8, 9 and 0 along with members of
the JT1KAA radio club. Look for activity to be on 160-10 meters CW,

JW, SVALBARD. Just a reminder that Francois, F8DVD, will once again be
active as JW/F8DVD from the Longyearbyen ARC, located on Spitsbergen
Island, 78° North, and about a thousand kilometers far from the
geographic North Pole (EU-026, WAZ 40 and Grid Square JQ78TF), April
12-23rd. His activity will be on all HF bands both CW and SSB. This
will be Francois's 5th time on the island. He will use the Longyearbyen
Radio Club's equipment which consists of an ICOM 751 and a 500 watts
PA, into a 5 elements yagi on a 30 meters high tower. QSL via his home

N8S SWAINS ISLAND UPDATE. By the time you read this, the N8S DXpedition
to Swains Island should be QRT. Reports indicate that they would be
going QRT around 1800z. As this bulletin was being written, the online
log search was showing 104,532 QSOs, but we heard reports of over
112,000 QSOs. Logs should be completely updated once back in Pago Pago.

Japanese operators who were in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
QSL cards for recent AS-148 (Sonyu Island, March 1-3rd, 2007)
operation have been printed and arrived on the door step of each
operator. Rocky/HL1VAU, Han/DS2GOO and Ryou/DS4NYE are now processing
the dirct QSL requests. Bureau QSL will go out later. The team logged
over 2,300 QSOs. Operation was under 20 hours. Activity time was
restricted by power failure, weather problem and some sleeping. Over
80 percent of QSOs were with Europe, and most of the QSOs were made
on the WARC bands.

RUSSIAN MOUNTAINS TO BE ACTIVATED (RMA and RDA Activity). Operators
RV3ATS, RV3ATT and RU3AVF plan to activate 16 mountains and 3 area
regions for the Russian Mountains Award (RMA) and the Russian District
Award (RDA) between June 19th and July 21st. The mountains will be
in the Maykopskiy region (AD-06), Hostinskiy Region (KR-10) and
the Tuapsinskiy region (KR-58). Activity will be on 40/20/15 meters.

SPECIAL EVENT. During the period of May 1st through July 31st, look for
special event station SN750C and station SN750BK of the "Brotherhood of
the Rooster" (Bractwo Kurkowe whose responsibility was to defend
Krakcow against the numerous and always threatening invaders) will be
active. Activity is to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Krakow City,
Poland. Also, look for individual stations using the special callsign
prefix SN0 to be active. QSOs with these stations and the SN750
stations on any band and mode will count towards a special diploma.

SU8, EGYPT (Special Event). You still have until April 17th to work the
special event station SU8DRM which is organized by International Tele-
communication Union (ITU) for the Regional Conference on Disaster
Relief and Management - International Cooperation & Role of ICT, in
Alexandria, Egypt. Operators mentioned are: SU1GS, SU1SA, SU1SK, SU2TA,
SU1AO, SU1KA, SU1KM and SU9NC. QSL Manager is SU1KM. Egypt has no QSL
bureau. Please QSL ONLY DIRECT via: MOHAMMED EL KAFRAWI, P.O.BOX 70,

acceptable by their postal offices, only (USD) green stamp is barely

TC57, TURKEY (Special Event). Operators Tevfik/TA1HZ and Bekir/TA2RX
will be operating from the Gelibolu Peninsula as TC57ALAY between April
21-25th. Activity is to commemorate the 57 Regiment martyrs who lost
their lives in Canakkale War in 1915. Look for them to be on 7090 kHz
(+/-10) and 14270 kHz (+/-30).
TK, CORSICA (EU-014). Operators Laci/HA0HW, Tomi/HA4DX, Geza/HA4XG,
Ivan (Johny)/LZ1PJ and Valya/LZ5AV (XYL) will be active as TH/homecall
from Cap Corse - Nr. Tollari (WW Loc. JN43QA, DIFM TK-001, MIA MCO-001,
WLOTA LH-1390), April 21-28th. Activity will be on all HF bands 160-10
meters (depending on the propagation) with two stations, and one VHF
station also. Operations will mainly be CW, but they will also use SSB,
RTTY and PSK31 as well. Geza will try to be on 144 MHz Tropo, MS
(FSK441, 1st. period, 144.363) with IC746 + 500 watts + 10 element
DK7ZB yagi during the morning and evening hours. QSL via the HA and LZ

TO3, MARTINIQUE. Alex, VE3KF, will be active with the special callsign
TO3T, May 23-31st. Activity will be on CW and SSB plus an entry in the
CQ WPX CW Contest. QSL directly to VE3KF or via the bureau.
TO4, CUBA. Operators Willy/CO2MHZ and Winston/CO2WF will be active as
T40C from Habana, Cuba, for the next CQ WPX CW Contest (May 26-27th).

VK, AUSTRALIA. Saturday, April 28th (UTC), is International Marconi
Day, and the Hornsby and Districts Amateur Radio Club will be running
the only IMD station in Australia using VK2IMD on all HF bands. ADDED
INFO: This international event is operated by stations in locations
that have a link to Marconi. In the case of VK2IMD, operations are
located close to Wahroongah, in the northern suburbs of Sydney, NSW,
where Ernest Fisk of AWA received the first direct radio message from
Britain to Australia in 1918. This was a telegram from the Australian
Prime Minister Billy Hughes (who had just returned to Britain, having
toured the World War I battlefields in France). It was sent by
Marconi's station in Carnarvon, Wales. Visit the following Web pages

VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Fred, PY2XB, will be active as VP5/PY2XB
from Providenciales Island (NA-002) between April 19th and May 3rd.
Activity will have an emphasis on the lower bands (160/80/40m) and the
WARC bands (30/17/12m), as well as the digital modes (BPSK31 and RTTY).
He will have a six meter CW beacon active on 50.097 MHz. QSL via PT7WA,

VQ9, CHAGOS ISLANDS. Jim, VQ9JC (aka ND9M), has returned to Diego
Garcia for another four month tour and will resume operating as VQ9JC.
He informs OPDX: "Operating time tends to run about 85% CW, 10% SSB,
and 5% digital and is on 80-10 meters. I must take a boat from my ship
(where I am one of the few remaining Radio Officers) to the island
where the ham shack is located and usually cannot be QRV before 1200Z.
(Local time is GMT +6 all year.) In order to be on the boat back to the
ship, I must QRT by 1635z on Sundays through Thursdays, and by 1735z on
Fridays and Saturdays, although I will occasionally stay overnight to
work early morning DX." Jim was heard this past week on 20/15 meters
CW. QSLs go to ND9M (ex-WB9IHH); either by the Bureau or direct is OK.
Jim states, "My XYL will forward direct requests to me every three
weeks or so, but mail typically takes about two weeks to get to the
island once she mails it. As for direct QSL requests, I'm continually
surprised to see the number of invalid IRCs coming through. A few are
the older style that expired at the end of 2006, but the majority of
them are invalid because they were not stamped by the issuing post
office. I wouldn't mind 'eating' two or three, but I've received
literally dozens so far this year. All QSL requests are answered of
course, but requests that come with invalid IRCs will be answered via
the buro. CU in the pileups! 73 for now, Jim, VQ9JC / ND9M"
