[80m] Antenna Help

Hi Gary.....
The best bet is to get a 1/4~ base fed vertical such as a Hy-Tower. You can
actually resonate it without any loading or matching coils.
I have one here with 90, 70' radials and I don't have any problem working
all over Europe with 100 watts on SSB.
In fact...I recently worked OF9X in Lapland with a radio that was upside
down on the test bench using 100w and the HT.
It works unbelievably well on 40mtrs as well. This is with no loading coils
or matching networks and will not require a tuner either.
Just attach the coax and go.
These antennas are not like the inefficient 43' verticals which will require
some matching network.....yes, you can make contacts with them but you are
giving up a lot.
There is not much height difference from 43' to 55'.
You can download the manual from MFJ/Hy-Gain and see how it is made.
You can also order all telescoping aluminum pipe from DX Engineering and
roll your own.
They have all the hardware for an antenna like this.

Best bet is a vertical with what ever radial system you can manage.

Aluminum tubing, shunt fed tower or even a 43 foot vertical with tuner (sold
by several companies) would all be good choices.

primary goal is to be able to work DX from the East Coast into Europe and
the Middle East. I do have the linear space, but not many trees for getting
wire high off the ground. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
