[600MRG] 630m Transmit, Beware of High RF Voltages

   If you are feeding an electrically short antenna on 630m and matching it
with a loading coil, beware of high RF voltages.  The impedance matching of
the loading coil can transform the RF to very high voltages on the
antenna.  If you are running anything more that a Watt or so be careful.
You'll see how high the antenna RF voltages can get with a neon tube or
string of NE2 bulbs series connected on a wooden paint stick.  Standard
antenna insulators may not be adequate at 50 or 100W power levels.
   I've run 50W into a 38' vertical on 630m.  The guy wires were double
porcelain insulators and nylon rope.  Another good choice for insulators is
a long run of heavy fish line or weed-wacker line.
   Any vertical feedlines such as coax to a dipole should be clear of
anything that could catch fire.
