[600MRG] ARC5 Receiver on 630m Question

I've been tempted to buy one of those China 
ATS-25 dsp receivers 

just to see how it performs. Goes down to about 150 khz. One of the eBay stores threw me an offer of $99.00, free shipping. I passed. Think I'll wait to see what gets posted in the online reviews. Great price but I'm a bit skeptical.......KW7T

In general, modern transceivers that cover 630 meters are going to run
rings around those older receivers because DSP is king these days for
weak signal work.  I regularly run my bandwidth down to 120 or 50 Hz
to pull out weak CW stations.    Selectivity also suffers based on
some of the reports from ops that have tried to use those rigs for
more than just novelty.

If your goal is CW, you may be able to hear stations and make it work
some of the time but the modern stuff is going to be far superior. For
 WSJT digital modes, that RX is going to be a non-starter.  There are
some vintage guys active but many of them are using vintage TX with
modern receivers..YMMV

A good commenter on this topic would be AB5S.  I think he still favors
his modified IC-735 most of the time for CW (and 100% of the time for
digital modes) but has been known to listen with the ARC5 from what I
recall.
