Thanks Neil - So I bought this from Gigaparts for HF mobile work and as an IF for my 137/475 10Mhz transverters as you do too but I would have dearly liked the radio to have some performance
down on LF and MF too. Reading the June 2017 QST review I was expecting phase and other close in noises but really its awful on spurs and wandering switchmody sounding wandering carriers and really to be honest not convinced yet I dont have a Lemon. The right thing would have been a return and replacement but Gigaparts said on reviewing my video it was due to local in shack noise and coupling - talk about a cop out and really disappointed with this lame response and my narrative clearly says how Im testing
Gigaparts poilcy is after ten days you have to deal with Yaesu USA - as I was due to take the unit to the UK as part of a prop for an expedition film documentary -it didnt work out usable... so I came back and made a few tests and the video John shared was the original test, on dummy load (makes no difference to spurs) and on standalone stable battery. The other thing is that on power on the spurs drift up and if its an issue in regulation and decoupling of say a dc/dc converter - they also, on power up, change in intensity, and go up into the 160m "in spec" band so Im not convinced at all but now basically got no wiggle room. I told Yaesu I could hear synth or spurs into 160m but of course no response. Oh well - Ill use as a 10MHz IF as really its probably great for HF mobile where close in performance isnt too bad but not good for base station, and based on this one unit a Lemon on MF and LF. We will see....

to Laurence KL7L and others,
I watched with interest the YouTube video that Laurence posted on the KB5NJD blog for September 13.
I concur with Lawrence’s experience with the FT 891 radio. I expressed my concern to Yaesu about the problem of the audio interference below the broadcast band and got the same response from the TechTeam there.
although I can hear through the audio interference most of the time, I have found that using an LF converter at 10 MHz makes the radio very usable at LF/MF
I agree with Laurence that hams interested in our new low frequency bands avoid purchasing this radio.
