Hi all:
Just for the chuckle of it.. I started hearing a strange noise last night,, hard to put it in words,, sounded kinda like;
uhrum, uhrum, uhrum,uhrum... it would get louder, then fade away... come back slowly, and louder, then fade away..
It sounded like some sort of engine running and the sound was oscillating against another sound... I could put
my ear to the wall next to my radio and hear it clearly, but could not derive a direction that it was coming from...
Today, I walked my tie off points to check guy rope tension, and that is when I discovered where the uhrum was
coming from.. It got down to 15 degrees last night, and stayed cold all day.. The wind was blowing from the NE..
When I touched one of the guy ropes on the NE side of the antenna, it was vibrating !! Put my ear close to it
and what did I hear ?? uhrum, uhrum, uhrum - while the wind was blowing... The bottom set of guy ropes are
connected to the top of a short tower that is fastened to the side of my mobile home with all metal side and roof...
The vibration was travelling up the guy ropes, and down the tower, into the metal siding, and oscillating in the walls...
As I type this, I am hearing multiple guy ropes singing in the wind !! I have heard guy wires singing on an
A.M. tower before, but this is the first time I have heard my guy ropes twangin like a banjo string.. hi - hi
