Bart,
I have been running an on-ground dipole on 630m for the past couple
of years. It's about 460 feet total length and fed with a 50:200 ohm
balun that is designed to work at 470kHz. Pretty good for local work
but not as effective as feeding my 162' flat top at 70 feet as a
top-loaded vertical against ground.
The technical basis for earth antennas can be found in the following texts
_Near Earth and Buried Antennas_ by Lavrov and Knyazev (1967) and
_Antennas in Matter_ by King and Smith (1981)
