Bart,
Thanks for the John Staples articles.
The Elad FDM-S2 has a noise floor of -125dBm when terminated into 50 ohms and with the attenuator enabled.
My first VLF receiver was a Drake TR-7. The DC port of the mixer was connected to the RF input so it worked well in the VLF band.
Years ago used to be able to receive VLF stations with a loop in the shack. The noise level has been increasing with he proliferation of digatal devices ans switching power supplies so I have to use an external antenna away from noise sources to pick up the weak stations these days,
I've enjoyed your historical articles in the past.

Put in your e-mail in the box at the bottom right, and you'll get weekly reports mostly about our renovation of an old TelCo building (1901) into a communications museum, but lots of other matters of interest. (And we did salvage two old TelCo grounds for our system).

Several of us, including John Stuart, KM6QX have logged all three Russian Alpha stations from 11.904 KHz to 14.881 KHz, and lots of other VLF stations including experimental licensees.
