[50mhz] Mentoring needed……..a question of the DX Window

OM's,
It is delightful to see this discussion surface again. I conducted a rather lengthy e-mail discussion on and off the reflector back in 2011 focused on the use of the DX window by one very well equipped East Cost station in 3-land. I referenced the 2010 column in QST by Dave Sumner, which encouraged folks to "make some noise on the dead bands" which seems to have been mis-interpreted by many US stations as a license to operate in the 6 mtr DX Window.
As some note, the DX-window is just that. Some of our better equipped 6 mtr ops, those with KW's and stacked arrays at 100 ft, feel that it is their obligation to "open the band" and that no one in Europe or Africa, etc, can make it across the pond without their help. I should remind them of the Cyprus station I worked on 6 cw during the 1978-81 peak who was running 50 watts.
The real question is why can't these folks just settle in on 50.135 or so ? There is absolutely no proof that the propagation which exists on 50.100- 50.125 does not exist at 50.135 or above.
Mentoring and couching hopefully will help, but unfortunately, there are those who believe that simply through their investment of money, time and certainly technical knowledge, has alone empowered them to disregard the recommended band plan.
Good luck to all on 6 and I encourage all to set the example for others by coaching courteously, but persistently, to achieve the operating environment we all would like to enjoy.

There is a crew of guys that hang out constantly on the calling Fx. No amount of talking to them does any good. They simply are incapable of comprehending the concept. Their answer is that it's good that they hang out there so someone will notice them.....the only thing is that all have mediocre stations because they report hearing my 2KW and giant beam as S6. I have simply given up trying. Mentoring only works when someone wants to learn, or even cares.

We need to kindly help these guys fit into the mainstream.........yesterday there were at least 3 domestic stn.s sitting in the traditional DX window of 50100-50125 just chatting and passing out grid squares. I hrd. several in there at least 30 mins. of CQing & chatting. Maybe you hrd more. Besides being impolite & ignoring the traditional rules of the game they were QRMing DX. There were CT & CU stn.s being covered by these stn.s. Someone probably lost a chance to work a new DX while these guys couldn't figure out they should have been 25 kc higher in the band. I did hear several stn.s ask these stn.s to QSY out of the DX window. They were ignored. Guys we don't need to flame them. We need to mentor them......
