[50mhz] 50mhz Digest, Vol 124, Issue 10

I think it is 50.100 to 50.125 for DX Window. With 50.110 as the DX calling
frequency . We can work domestic CW between 50 and 50.100 as well as working
DX there. And you can always find lots of DX in EU above 50.125 on SSB.
But I have seen lots of variants on all of this by both domestic and foreign
operators. I can see where some people might get really confused. It is why
I rarely call CQ DX, and just reply to CQs. Both SSB and CW. That way I am
not the originator of any offenses.

>From 50.0 to 50.125 is generally considered the "DX Window". DX stations
have the focus. They don't go there to look for us calling CQ. They
generally set the frequency, call CQ, we go to them, worked them, and
then move out of the DX window. It's a simple process that's worked very
well over the last 40 years.

I've had decent luck with sending the 'offenders' a polite email including
the 6-meter band plans.Alot of folks are new to the band and have no idea on
protocol.

HiHi
I work QRP as well as QRO. When there is no new DX for me QRO ( 324 worked
and confirmed ), then I go QRP. Need 3 states for WAS and already have over
150 countries QRP.
I am 65 yrs old so life is getting short.
Now, if I can just get Alaska on 6 meters I will have WAS 6 and will only
need 1 more DX for DXCC on 6. I heard KL7KY a couple weeks ago during a rare
opening to KL7 but he did not hear me. Sigh !
But, I have worked JAs and ZK1 ( E51 ) and ZL. Also need CP6UA or equivalent
and St. Vincent J8.
What is terrible is when you have a neighbor ( 10 miles ) also on 6 meters
who has a wide signal and he clobbers your radio 5 KHz away when you are
trying to work DX or anyone. Maybe my FT2000 has a wide receiver but I doubt
it.
Best Regards
Dan Schaaf

I agree Dan.
There are other ways to look at the issue of QRM:
On one side, QRM just adds to the challenge. If working a DX station was
always easy, it would not continue to be as much fun as it is.
On the other side, if the QRM is masking a weak DX signal, then asking the
station to please move further away (and explain why) is appropriate.
On the lighter side, if asking nice and polite is met with disdain, maybe
the following next step is in order:
Move up 1.5kc, call CQ DX.
A few things might happen:
a) The DX hears your LOUD and POWERFUL signal and moves up to your
frequency.
B) The QRM'er hears only your LOUD and POWERFUL signal just above him and
moves down to get away.
c) You ask the DX station to standby for your "buddy" the QRM'er when he
comes up to see who it is :-) LOL....
Life's too short for QRM ( or was that QRP) ?

My 2 Centavos:
It has nothing to do with No Code or CB mentality. It is about a lack of
education in the established list of courtesies.
Perhaps it can be explained to them that while there is no FCC rule that
prohibits them from doing what they are doing, there is an established
gentlemen's courtesy that will benefit them as well as everyone else.
If they are not Cluster observers, then they might not know that there is DX
where they are operating. One of the benefits of the Cluster is to let
people know where NOT to be as well as where to listen for a needed one.
Since we all do NOT have spectrum scopes on our radios, the cluster serves
an important role. The alternative might be to install a motor drive onto
the VFO shaft.
I realize that there are stubborn people. I have run across them on 60
meters in the DX Channel 5.4035 MHz. Once they start a rag chew, they think
that they are the only hams in the world and that they now own that
frequency.
Best Regards
Dan Schaaf

You can't just blame the 'no code' or 'CB' mentality. We need to kindly
help these guys fit into the mainstream.........yesterday there were at
least 3 domestic stn.s sitting in the traditional DX window of
50100-50125 just chatting and passing out grid squares. I hrd. several in
there at least 30 mins. of CQing & chatting. Maybe you hrd more.
Besides being impolite & ignoring the traditional rules of the game they
were QRMing DX. There were CT & CU stn.s being covered by these stn.s.
Someone probably lost a chance to work a new DX while these guys couldn't
figure out they should have been 25 kc higher in the band. I did hear
several stn.s ask these stn.s to QSY out of the DX window. They were
ignored. Guys we don't need to flame them. We need to mentor them......

:::: The same thing goes on here in east TN, where the e-skip rarely blesses
us, and Lord knows we need all the DX help we can get. There is a crew of
guys that hang out constantly on the calling Fx. No amount of talking to
them does any good. They simply are incapable of comprehending the concept.
Their answer is that it's good that they hang out there so someone will
notice them.....the only thing is that all have mediocre stations because
they report hearing my 2KW and giant beam as S6. I have simply given up
trying. Mentoring only works when someone wants to learn, or even cares.

When I want to work 6M DX I rarely use SSB as there are a lot more fine DX
ops on CW...and usually longer haul also.
Let the CB crowd have .125 and up

I agree with one of the previous posts. You can only mentor someone who
wants to be mentored. Many think they already know better...

Every band has its share of "band idiots"; 6 meters is no exception. It
becomes even more pronounced when the opens up.
