Bill, for SSB/CW horizontal is definitely best because that is what
everyone else will be running. This will maximize your results with
stations within normal range. For enhanced propagation like E and F
layer skip, polarization is not so important because the 'hop' will tend
to shift the polarization as you noted. However, since there is a lot
more 'normal' propagation on 6 than 'enhanced', I definitely recommend
horizontal polarization.
I've used a Par Omniangle on 6 for over 10 years at 200 watts with
excellent results - 250 Grid Squares worked in the past 4 years at my
current location. I use them on 10, 2 and 432 as well - they are great
antennas and have a nice omni pattern. I have also used the M2 loop on
6 and can recommend it if you need to run more power.

Good luck and 73!
