Y'all must remember that the WSJT8 modes, as released, are EXPERIMENTAL
modes released for Beta test purposes only. As Joe Taylor has already
published a summary of the Beta test inputs he has received and the
preliminary conclusions he has reached about the various new modes he
created (including ISCAT), the Beta test period for release r1944 is now
essentially over.
That doesn't mean you have to stop using the modes, but please realize that
there are MANY bugs and limitations in the r1944 release, and this release
cannot be relied upon for on-the-ground use as one would rely upon the
production-level release of a communications product. If you're interested
in WSJT8, please make sure you are subscribed to the WSJT Group Yahoo!
board, which is where the most current information will show up first.
Most of the guys who participated in the Beta test have now gone back to
using the WSJT7 modes, awaiting Joe's next iteration of any or all of these
new modes. From what he wrote in his summary post, it looks like ISCAT is
the most likely to see continued development work and eventual release, but
even that isn't a foregone conclusion.
