OK. Thanks Lance & Joe, I appreciate your insights. I had indeed wondered if I
was picking up beacon activity... thrown a little by "RRR", "OO", an d"OOO"
prints plus some valid-loking "73 messages" ... though I was suspicious of
some of the callsigns generated. 

I will chalk it up to gaining some experience and mistakenly picking up
beacons.
