[50mhz] Opinions wanted on 6m radios

I had a IC-551D for a short time about 20 years ago. The phase noise was so
bad that even a Drake TR-6 heard weak signals that werent even on the IC.
The phase noise was also on TX and could take out 10 kHz when signals were
strong.

I use a FT-650 for portable and at our summer place in Maine. Only complaint
is the receiver doesnt like a band full of strong signals as in a contest or
big DX openings to Europe. For the latter a yagi with 20-30dB F/R helps a
lot.

For home use I use a vintage Hallicrafters HA-6 transverter with a 1dB NF SS
preamp and a TS-830 driving it on 10M using a homebrew SS Class A buffer amp
built in the HA-6. Impossible to overload and no phase noise. It drives a
1200W amp and has been my favorite even over a DEM transverter.
