According to the Wikipedia article about the Essex-class carriers,
the Essex (CV-9) itself was scrapped in 1975. Four of its class
remain as floating museums:
Yorktown (CV-10), at Patriot's Point, Mount Pleasant, South
Carolina
Intrepid (CV-11), in New York City
Hornet (CV-12), in Alameda, California
Lexington (CV-16), at Corpus Christi, Texas
I visited the Yorktown in Charleston harbor some years ago. It was
an awesome experience. Of course, I'm a WW-II history fanatic. :-)
