I am saddened to hear a fellow ham throws away qsls. He doesn't consider
them part of the qso. How would he feel if he answered a cq and the other
station said: I refuse to talk to your call area or your state? What if they
refused to qso with you for ANY reason even though you have never met. What if
after you gave your name they said I don't qso with people with that name? You
would be insulted or at least disappointed. A ham tradition since the
beginning has always been: ''a qsl is the final transmission of an enjoyable qso'.
I admit I collect paper qsls. I enjoy getting & giving them. I have
thousands. None are more valuable than others. I have been a ham 47 yr.s and an
active HF and now 6m operator.I have 354 HF countries confirmed with paper cards.
I also have my first novice qso confirmed with a paper card. I am chasing DX
and grid squares on 6m now too. I send the paper cards all the time. My info
on QRZ.COM says an SASE is not necessary.I answer all qsls.
I wonder if this station announced during his cq that he would talk to you
but he would never send or receive qsls how many replies he would get.
I happen to be the only active HF station in my county in Tn. I don't intend
to spend my life angering my fellow hams. Maybe he should get a more
solitary hobby that he can persue alone.
