I have not personally owned one of these, HOWEVER, I have used one on
several occasions. NB is very good in the mobile situation. The CW off set may
pose a problem as it did in the 706 though. I don't think it variable as it is
the FT 100 Yeasu rig. FT 100 is not "0" but can be dropped to as little as
400 hz. The SSB narrow filter works very well for knocking down the adjacent
Frequency QRM. Receiver is very good for this style of radio. over all my
impressions of the DX70 have been very favorable except for the price tag
currently. I will say that I would consider an FT 100D or an FT 857 before I buy
a new DX70. The 857 new can be had for less then what a new 70 can be had
for and the FT 100 even without the U/VHF final working has a better receiver
then the 70 and can be had for 300-400 dollars. Both rigs are smaller then
the 70 if size is a consideration as well. I would buy an FT 100 with a dead
U/VHF final before I would a DX 70 but it would be my second choice if I
couldn't find a 100 on the used market and an FT 857D if I was looking on the new
market. One man's opinion and admittedly a Yaesu man but was impressed
with the 70.
