Hi, we have an Alinco DX70TH purchased used for $425 + shipping in
November of 2001. That was a super time for 6 meters and I only wish
we'd had it a few months earlier. We later added a Ten-Tec 6N2 but it
is only 20 watts. Better receiver though.
I got the Alinco to have 6 meter base capability and to use as a backup
HF rig for our FP (St. Pierre and Miquelon) vacations. We mainly use it
on 6 meter CW and sideband, plus it has made one AM contact and maybe a
few on FM. We use the noiseblanker most of the time at home because of
the electric fence for our sheep flock. We have not found it to be a
problem or interfere with weak signals. It doesn't seem to be
adjustable.
On FP, we run a breakable CW beacon on 50.120. I've never noticed an
offset kick in when switching to USB if the caller is on that mode. We
had complaints that people heard us and we didn't hear them. That was
true on HF as well up there. It was probably related to the antennas,
not the rigs.
Paul K9OT is the CW op in the family. He is very picky about his CW
rigs and feels the Alinco is an adequate backup performer for the
money. He used a 706 once, on HF, and did not like the menus, so we got
the Alinco instead. This rig is a lot easier to operate, especially
mobile. It is not for sale although we have had a few people interested
in it.
If anyone is interested in the Alinco DX70 series, make sure which
model you are dealing with. The TH is the one that does 100 watts on 6
meters. Other versions do not, including the cheap one that Radio Shack
sold for awhile. They're good too but lower priced because of the lack
of 100 watt 6 meters.
