Dear Dave (W6OAL) and others,
Several points:
The ARRL Bandplan says that CW is a shared mode in the SSB portion of the 6
meter band, so there should not be any complaints about the use of CW.
Besides, it will penetrate the distances much better than SSB will. Good
practice suggests that CW on a calling freq be made maybe 300 to 600 below
teh actual calling freq so that it is nearby but still separate from teh
calling freq.
I agree with you, and while we are at it, I find a lot of DX making Qs above
50.125. So, it makes you wonder if we are the only people playing by the
rules.
What bothers me just as much is that there are people, well seasoned hams,
running high power and antennas, S9+20 here, who think that they own the
50.125. And actually scold people for QRMing them. Seems that the proper
etiquette would be to call CQ and announce moving to , say 50.140, and leave
the freq for the CQers. 100 watts will get you just about any contact when
the band is open, and 1 KW will get you nowhere when the band is closed.
And there was one DX station calling CQ constantly on 50.110 yesterday, and
not offering to listen on another freq. He was covering up all of the other
DX in his region.
This band is a nice band to work but also sometimes seems to be similar to
11 meters in terms of a few people's attitudes.
Best Regards
Dan Schaaf
