I can recall having a novice license and a technician license, as did many others.  The way to the HF bands was to study and obtain the next higher class license not to whine about it.  This is a sad commentary on today's society that values sameness over the pursuit of excellence.  A society where it is ok if little Johnny thinks 2 plus 2 equals 5, as long as he feels good about it, where he is pushed on to the next grade because it does not matter if he can't read his diploma,  we don't want to offend him by having him repeat the grade.
