Well, since we are all airing the laundry, I'll stick my two cents in.
I have been on six meters only since 1999 so am a relative "Newbie".
I left the HF bands because I have climbed the mountain of DX Chasing,
finally getting on the Honor Roll after trying since 1964 when I got my
DXCC award. I found six meters only by accident because I bought a new
ICOM 746 and it had the band on it. I have never looked back at HF and
have no interest in it any longer. I would rather listen to white
noise on six than the mess on 20 meters or 75 meters.
My six meter interests have been to work grid squares and states.
I only rag chew with locals on ground wave, very rarely when the band
is open. I have given out many rare grids here in New Mexico from my mobile and this has been my main thrust. I have a question to pose
to all of you and would be interested in opinions. When I get in a rare
Grid square, I sometimes QSY down to 50.120. I have been cussed and
discussed for doing this and have been told "This frequency is for
DX ONLY". Now, that is a relative statement because I worked a JA
from DM74 one time and on his card, he thanked me for the rare DX
contact. To him, I was rare DX, and to me, HE was rare DX. Who is
right. I am getting ready to go on another DX pedition to DM56
in a couple of weeks if it opens and will do the same and catch the
flak, I guess. I will QSY to 50.120 if it gets too crowded up above.
I hope God forgives me for committing such a sin.
BTW, the greatest hams I've ever known in my 57 years of ham radio
are on six. I love it.
