[50mhz] Rig vs Rig question

Mike,
The FT-100 receiver is SO MUCH better than the 817. I liked my 817, but is
kinda like a QRP rig melded with a multimode HT. Great rig, but recognize
what it is.
It is not a functional replacement for your FT-100 except as an EXCELLENT
QRP rig or EXCELLENT MULTIMODE HT.
If you would like something in between consider an 857 or 897 with DSP.
You'll get a great receiver, great functionality greater operational
flexibility and the need for some bigger batteries, but you can limit the
increased power needs by cutting back on the output power.
The increased receiver current drain is manageable.
Choose between one of these depending on your operational needs and you'll
be a happy camper!

As for the IC-706 family, there just OK, but not as good as an FT-100/100D.
I have two IC-746PROs and LOVE THEM, but you'll need to wait until the kinks
get out of the IC-7000, before its receiver (AND WONDERFUL DSP - same DSP as
the 746PRO and 756PRO series) can supersede the performance of the 857/897
with their DSP.

Now ya gone an done it. :-)

The ICOM is a good radio but I like my FT-100 a little better than the
706 and there is no comparison to my FT-736R. My next purchase is a
FT-817.
