I'm on your side on this one 100% Chris. If any V/UHF band needs a
national standard bandplan is 50MHz for all the reasons you point out.
I would love to program in all the "standard" repeater pairs into my
FT8900 and while I'm on the road <80,000 mi/yr> I can just throw the
radio in scan and possibly work not only 50MHz FM simplex but
repeaters all over the country when there is a band opening. The most
I would have to do is find the correct CTCSS.
As for what split to use on 50MHz. I don't really care all that much.
The current 1MHz is fine with me and with the present plan lends
itself to right at 50 standard pairs. In my thinking that should be a
sufficient number. Likewise unless there would be a good technical
reason, you could almost IMHO standardize the PL tones state by state
since there are so few 50MHz repeaters.
As for a 1.6MHz split what is your suggestion for the input / output ranges?
