Hi Bill:
I meant to get back to you earlier but my taxes got in the way.

I've been asked this question many times, both by myself and other VHF'ers.

My conclusion is that CT is the best choice !!!
-CT is available in a Windows version as well as DOS. Both work well.
-It's fast and simple to use.
-It has a "Super Partial Checker" to check a partial callsign as you enter it.
-It has a "Master Database" for VHF callsigns only. A great plus for VHF contests.
-It work well on older laptops for Hilltopping, FD, Rover etc !!! (it's not "BloatWare")
-It has excellent support. Updates readily available by download from K1EA's site.
-It has a mail list at [email protected] . To get your questions answered fast.
-It's now FREE !!! I'd still pay for it if it wasn't free !!!

I can go on and on about CT. I've used it for all my VHF contests since the early
90's or whenever V5.07 came out. I was a "Paying Customer" until it became free.

WriteLog is nice but expensive and is overkill for me and my equipment. Unless things
have changed there is yearly update fee of $50 or $60. Too steep for me !!!

Next we have "General Loggers" like LOGic, Log-EQF, and the like. These function
as "Contest Loggers", but I have never found that they offer the features of CT.

I use LOGic as my "General Logger" and import the CT ADIF files into it after the contest.
It works great for that purpose !!! I've tried LOGic for some contests and was never really
happy with it compared to CT.

I've tried Log-EQF in both DOS and Windows versions. While it's not a "Contest Logger",
it functions well. It misses some features found in CT.

The bottom line is there are "General Loggers" and "Contest Loggers". Both do their
specific job well. When you try to combine the functions into one program things don't
work quite as well.

My vote is for CTWIN and LOGic for the most flexibility. The 2 BEST !!!

Look at the "Super Partial Checker" and the VHF "Master Database" features in CT
before you make your mind up.

See you in June on 6M from FN42ma (2M also Hi Hi).
