Mel, Mark, et al.,
Thanks for the many responses to my query from both the LOGic and 50MHz
reflectors. I've checked out all the suggested programs and previewed a few of
them, where possible.
Well, call me whatever, but I just can't see myself using a DOS app. I guess
I've just been a Windows user for too long (twelve years!) My brain has become
GUI-attuned, I guess. <g> So I really looked seriously only at the true Windows
apps. Since I'll be running it on a 1.8 GHz dual-CPU machine with a 10K RPM
Ultra-SCSI HD and 4 GB RAM, I don't exactly have to worry about code efficiency
versus hardware horsepower. :-)
Writelog is obviously an awesome program, as sophisticated in concept and
implementation as LOGic. Way more than what I need, at least for the moment --
but I suspect I'll end up with it at some day soon. I just really love elegant,
heavy-duty software. For this summer's VHF contest, though, I've decided to go
with the N3FJP VHF Contest logger. It's a well-crafted Windows app obviously
created by somebody who understands VHF contesting; it's simple and easy to use,
and very fast; it talks to my radio (for frequency readout); and it costs ten
bucks. :-) All definite plus-points.
(I can see that for really serious contesting, though, Writelog offers an
incredible array of tools you can't find anywhere else.)
See you June 12-13 when 6M is wide-open (fingers and toes crossed)...
