I feel as long as the beacon frequency is coordinated in your area, that it
would be very useful. I used to not bother to
even listen for beacons, but I learned in the last couple of years how
valuable they really are. MANY times I hear beacons
indicating sporadic openings before stations are even on the air. Once the
beacons are posted on DX clusters, LET THE
ACTION BEGIN!!! Here in DRY Utah, beacons don't help for much TROPO
activity, but I'm sure in your area that would be
an added benefit. GO FOR IT. My beacons (K7UV/b) are on 50.063 & 144.291
MHz and hope to soon add one on 432 if
someone can tell me WHAT IS THE BEACON SUB-BAND for 70 CM?
Good Luck...Ron Johnson K7UV DN31xm

| I have a 180ft site with a lowband antenna in the 49 MHz range
| on it already on the far north side of Houston...have been thinking of
| adding a beacon on 6 there...any comments? It would be maybe 20watts
| max....trying to think if we need a beacon here in Texas near Houston
| to let you folks outside the Lone Star State know when its opened to
