John,

Your understanding is correct. The FT-847 will not crossband repeat as the TS-2000 does. Doesn't make it a bad radio, just doesn't do that function. I would buy mine again in a heartbeat.

Hope to hear you on SIX!

Just finished reading the QST product review on the
FT847, and was confused by a statement that was made.
I am hoping that a FT847 user can clear this up for
me. It says that the 847 has a "Crossband split
capability" where you can repeat from 2 meters to
70cm, but will not relay the response from 70cm to 2
meters. It says that you can get full duplex in
satellite mode.

I currently own a kenwood TS2000 and it has crossband
repeater function, where I can set the main receiver
on say, 50.125 and the subreceiver on 446mhz. I can
then take my HT about town tuned to 446, and when i
transmit on that freq, the TS2000 will rebroadcast my
audio on 50.125. Furthermore, any audio on 50.125
will be rebroadcast on 446 for me to receive on my HT.
Great function!! Can the FT847 do this in satellite
mode. The review makes it sound like it will take the
446 signal and rebroadcast it on 50.125, but will not
rebroadcast 50.125 reception on 446 for me to pick up
when in regular operation (they call this semi
duplex), but then QST says that it will do full duplex
in satellite mode.

So will this rig do crossband repeat as I have
described the TS2000 doing, or not?
