I have rejoined the list, hi all. I recently sold my home here in KY and am
in the process of building a new QTH in EM80.
I realize the following is subjective and biased, but......
Looking for what would be the ultimate receiver for 6 Meters. I expect the
new QTH will be very quiet. Underground utilities. I will be using a KLM JHV
at 90' or so. I will feed it with 7/8" hardline like I did at the last QTH.
Most experienced operators tell me that a transverter is the way to go, but
my experience with several converters and hf gear was not that impressive.
I have a nice R-390a with CV-591a SSB adapter. I have not tried this yet
(it's packed away in storage) but thought it's low noise/high gain might be
the ticket.
I have the following gear for 6 M:
Icom 756 PRO
Drake TR-6 (with new front end FETs)
Icom 551D with inboard ARR JFET preamp
All of the above work OK, but very similar. I have even taken the 14 Hhz IF
out of the TR-6 and input into the HF ant of the PRO. I can't say any radio
is best, although the PRO's bandscope is most interesting.
I have several 50>10M receiving converters, and they don't impress me much.
What is in use by the 'big' guns out there?
thanks, Ron
