Howdy! If 6m FM is all you have right now, yes, you need to be able
to scan around and listen to different frequencies. Sometimes, you'll
be able to hear the output of a 6m repeater, but since they are on all
kinds of split frequencies, you may just have to scan everything for
a while just to hear anybody.

As someone else pointed out, there is a fair amount of activity on
the simplex frequencies. I know that there is a net we have here in
EM27, that's gridtalk for Joplin, MO, and it'll be starting up in less
than an hour from when I post this. It's on 52.525, and we usually
have one station running vertical and another horziontal, in order
to catch everyone (if the band's up). You might give a listen for
some other "0" calls here shortly. If I can remember, I'll check in
myself, haven't been there in a while. :-)

  Welcome to the Magic Band!
