Subject: [COham] New EchoLink/eQSO Node & Other News....

Hi everyone:

I am announcing that there will be a NEW NODE which will soon be on the air.
As many of you on EchoLink and eQSO know, I've been tinkering with both
systems using just the PC and mic. However now is the time to change that.

Sometime this week, I will be COMPLETELY offline for a day or two. This
will be because I'll FINALLY be getting the new computer I've been talking
about. Once I do get it and tackle a few (hopefully minor) technical
issues, I'll soon be on both EchoLink and eQSO via RF.

The frequency I'm planning on will be 52.540 Mhz w/100.0 PL (which will be
needed to break the squelch), however this is NOT set in stone (I'll have to
get proper clearance from CCARC to ensure that I won't be interfering with
any other activities on that frequency). Those of you in Missouri, where my
brother (who's NOT a ham) lives, should be able to hear it during band
openings.

I'm not sure as to when my call will appear with a -L next to it (it'll be a
simplex link), but I'm hoping it'll be REAL soon once I get online with my
new computer (which will be CONSIDERABLY faster and have FAR more memory and
other bell and whistles thamn this old boatanchor I'm on now could ever
do!).

In addition, I'll be adding a new eQSO server to add to the GROWING list
that's already online. I'm witholding the name of it so I don't run the
risk of someone else snatching it before me (there ARE a lot of so-called
"SWLers" out there listening). :-) *Hi....Hi*

This computer that I'm on now will most likely be retired as it's outlived
its usefulness and will eventually croak (In fact, I'm amazed it hasn't done
so already given all the stuff I've called upon it to do - some of the tasks
being HERCULEAN at times).

So, long and short of it being this, barring no problems with interference
and technical problems (other than running extension cords/cables from the
back of the PC to the cables I got for my two radios, which are designed by
MFJ for a TNC), I should be on the air on EchoLink and eQSO in relatively
short order after my computer upgrade.

Speaking of extending the cables, I've got the MFJ-5065 YV for my ICOM
IC-706MKIIG (which will be the rig used to transmit RF on 6 meters) and the
MFJ-5060 YV for my Yaesu FT-5100 (which will serve as my control rig when
I'm away and the rig I use to work other repeaters while at home). Anybody
(especially on the EchoLink and eQSO lists, though packeteers are also
welcome :-)) have any ideas as to how I can extend these?? All I need is
one 3 ft. extension (especially for the cable for the ICOM). Any ideas
would be MUCH appreciated (though I suspect the solution is probably pretty
simple).

If my chosen sound card, which will be my current AudioPCI card if I can't
pony up for another SoundBlaster or if it won't work on my new motherboard,
can't handle both EchoLink AND eQSO, I'll go with eQSO and just use EchoLink
in User Mode only (Hopefully this won't happen if I get a seperate
SoundBlaster Live card, but I suspect it probably will with the current
AudioPCI card I have in this computer).

Anyways, now I'm rambling on senselessly. Time to wrap this one up and
click SEND. Talk to ya later everyone. :-)

Cheers & 73's for now everyone :-)

Remember....You can visit my Ham Radio websites and PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN
THE GUESTBOOK!!! Otherwise, I wouldn't know if you've even been there and
you wouldn't want that.....would you??? :-) *batting eyebrows*

P.S. Don't bother looking for me on either EchoLink or eQSO as I currently
don't have a working mic (or at least one I can plug into the back of the
PC), though I will try to remember to check into the N2LEN General
Discussion Net via EchoLink tomorrow night so we can do text only chat. :-)
