I hereby suspend the 10.137 Net, effective immediately. There aren't
enough check-ins to sustain the net in the original incarnation.
I plan to reinstate the net this fall, and I am seeking your input.
Several of you have objected to the Saturday morning time. I wanted to
take advantage of the morning propagation, but I can't argue with such a
strong consensus. Sunday morning is a no-go for any net other than an
atheist or agnostic net. Sunday evening is a no-go because of local
nets.
What would be a better time? Several of you suggested weekday evenings.
Some weekday evenings aren't convenient for me, so I'm ruling those out.
(There is softball on Mondays during the summer, volleyball on
Wednesdays during the winter, and my amateur radio club meeting on the
second Thursday of the month.)
How convenient are Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening, and Sunday
afternoon?
Would any of you prefer that I step aside so you can take over as the
10.137 Net manager? I want the net to be reinstated, whether or not I'm
in charge of it.
Also, have any of you ever started a net before? Are any of you
familiar of the origin of a net? What does it take to keep people
coming back? Back in January, I started a 6m/2m/70cm SSB net locally.
The net peaked in the first week and then declined over the next few
weeks. After only a few weeks, people stopped checking in. I thought
that my 30m net would take off because check-ins wouldn't be limited to
the local area, but this hasn't been the case.
