[222mhz] Why dredge up the past?

Say Matt:
I purposely avoided commenting on Bil K1ATV's thoughts about his
experiences with ATV and Remotebase issues in the past. I know Bil, he
knows me personally. I did comment and responded to Bil on other issues
related to Amateur Television, and took the discussion off this
list....as being the right thing to do.
Now as for Chris WB5ITT......he is a very knowledgeable fellow when it
comes to repeaters and Remotebase systems. He and I have "butted heads"
a few times in years past....right Chris? He can be very "sensitive" and
emotional as I can be....Chris, you know this to be true. But in the
spirit of having FUN in this great hobby I have learned to be honest on
the one side of the coin and this is a EVERYDAY attitude. On the other
side of this same coin I can be controversial, outspoken and "in your
face in a heartbeat"......really!
But as the experimenter I am and having designed and built at least 12
Ham repeaters since 1978....I can stand on my own soapbox and tell it
like I see it so.....
What I want to know from Budd N7EOJ, who started the original thread, "
We want some new technology on our "other band." And digging into the
past related to a specific 220 repeater that I designed and built. Yes,
the past can have its "upside" if dealt with in a positive manner.
So I ask you Budd and please don't suggest we take this discussion "off
the list" because if you sincerely want to keep the 220 spectrum alive
with your new repeater here in the Tucson community then tell me this.
Knowledge has it that I was the one who designed and built [over a one
years time frame during 1993-1994] the 220 repeater that was coordinated
on 224.060....agreed? This repeater had three remotebase radios
hardwired into it [2m, 6m and 10 meters] and the overall system worked
flawlessly.....agreed? That in time the supposedly owner Paul, who you
talked about in a conversation the other day, someone asked.....what
about this 220 repeater....remember? He was the original Owner but in
the next paragraph it is mentioned about a donation, a decision he made
and without my advice.
So knowledge has it that the repeater was "donated' to the TRA club, I
had no ownership in it but ONLY that I was the one who designed, built
it and maintained it for about five years on Mt. Bigelow.....agreed?
Now I was told [various sources] that when the repeater was completed
and before it went up to the "Hill", that the chief engineer at KVOA
channel 4 [Ralph W7HSG] made it clear that this repeater was to be
"burned in" at the studio downtown before it was to be installed on Mt.
Bigelow....didn't know that did you Budd?
Ralph was overheard to say [as told to me from one source] that he was
"impressed" with my work [design and construction] on this 224.06
repeater. That alone carried a lot of weight in my department of long
lost accolades I was deserving of.
Then low and behold someone in the TRA club takes "command" of this
repeater and from then on, it was removed from Mt. Bigelow and sat at
the KVOA downtown studios ever since! Ask your buddy Pete, N6ETA because
my sources say he was given responsibility to do something, anything
about this repeater.
So because I desire to see more activity here in the Tucson valley and
outlaying areas [out here where I live in Vail] on the 220
band......tell me with all of your own resources and "contacts" in and
around the Ham community. What is going to happen with this 224.060
repeater?
I am proud to say it but it was a really great repeater. I should know
because I designed it but somehow it fell by the wayside and it is so
sad that no one cares enough, to resurrect it and place it back on the
air.
So Budd...there you go.
Tell the group on this list what you can do to help resurrect this once
fine 220 repeater system and how you think your own individual efforts
have some "weight" in this town, since you know almost the same people I
know, but in contact with them more often then I.
So I play the devils advocate role here and only because as a repeater
owner [927.850, 49.925 & 448.450] with several 220 links up and
running....I have a vested interest in this community. So what you do on
220 mhz indirectly affects what I do with my links and Remotebase
system. And so all I ask is the one question. Can you look into what may
happen to this 224.060 repeater.

PS: This is a positive request [with past revelations] since we are on
the wavelength and aspirations to "keep 220 alive and
well".......hmmmmmm, now where did I put those found xtals for your 220
repeater..........

You missed his point. :-)
He was talking about 2 meter ATV struggles with the 2 meter remote base
crowd, and making a parable of sorts to make a point about dredging up
things from the past that can't be changed. It just seems like a better
idea to concentrate on what can be fixed, and not lament about old woes.
IMHO, anyway.
