I'd notch or filter 40 out of the modem input. The ADSL 
probably doesn't go above 1MHz so it should be very easy to 
filter it out if you can build a simple H filter with 
grounded center.

It would look like two center to center connected T networks 
with series L and shunt C, and the middle arm grounded. I'm 
not sure how regular telco RFI filters would work. They 
might kill the ADSL.
