I am about to deploy some Beverages and I thought it would be good to use the coax for signalling as well, but the rf transformers of course present a little problem.  I thought if I were to use tone signalling (rather than dc levels), say CTCSS and use an opto-isolator to get around the transformers that might do the trick.  That's as far as I've got, but it may give someone an idea.
