After muxing all information together regarding the design of a loop antenna
and taking into consideration design, cost, ease of deployment, electrical
protection etc., etc, I think the following ideas will work out nicely:

A 1,700 KHz loop at DC potential, 591' total on four 42' towers, coaxially
fed through a balun.  Each tower will have a lightning rod at the top with a
direct wire rope connection to a ground rod at the base.  At the base of the
feed point tower will be a relay box which will disconnect and short to
ground the antenna when the radio is off.

An interesting question:

Should a radios antenna input in a potential strike zone be terminated with
some sort of resistor rather than be left open like a disconnected garden
hose?
